Atkins Library has a wealth of children's resources that will help pre-service and inservice educators development instructional units and classroom activities. The primary places to look for these resources are the Curriculum and Instrucational Materials Collection, Children's/Young Adult Literature Collection and Children's Magazine Collection.
Primary tool for locating materials is the library's on-line catalog which will help you find out resources are owned by the library. For directions on searching the catalog for children's materials see catalog tips.

Children's Magazines
Children's magazines offer a wealth of ideas and activities which can be incorporated into the classroom. They are also a great way to get kids excited about reading and/or a particular topic. It is much more interesting and stimulating to read about the civil war in Cobblestones than it is in a social studies textbook.
The Curriculum and Instructional Materials Center houses about 30 children's magazines which can be integrated across the curriculum. Additional titles are available via several NC Live databases.
Print versions of the magazines can be found in the magazine file cabinets in the CIMC using the call number indicated in the online catalog record. Some years of some titles are available in full text electronically from either EBSCO Host. If you are off campus you will need to 'Sign-in' to the Library resources before you can access these titles.
Many of these titles have related websites which provide additional ideas and activities as well as information about the title itself.
