The following software and equipment is available for use by students with disabilities in the Library.
Naturally Speaking software is installed on the computer in Room 101C. This software allows the user to use voice commands to execute Windows functions and to type what is spoken. This allows a user to use the computer without having to manipulate the mouse. The computer is on the Novell network, exactly as the students are used to in the labs. They will therefore log in using their Novell login and password.
ZoomText Magnifier is software that enlarges and enhances everything on the computer screen, making it easier for visually-impaired users to use the computer. This software is loaded on the computer in the study room in Atkins 101C, too.
JAWS is on all Novell computers in the Library. JAWS is screen-reading software used primarily by visually impaired and blind students.
The Kurzweil equipment is in the computer carrel next Room 101C. This software scans written text and reads it aloud to the user.
Room 101C is bookable through the Information Desk on the 1st floor. Students will need to stop by this desk or call 704 687-2030 to reserve the room.

This room is available to all patrons, however students
registered with the Office of
Disability Services will get priority. Students can register with the Office of Disability
