3rd Floor Added to Quiet Study Areas

The Atkins Library has several areas designated as Quiet Zones for quiet study. In response to student feedback, another floor has been added as a quiet study area - the 3rd floor. The 1st and 2nd floors remain areas that facilitate collaborative study with quiet talking (except for the Dale Halton Room).  Just look for the QZ sign in the following locations: Ground Floor - Compact Shelving Area Only 1st Floor - The Halton Reading Room Only Floors 3 (NEW) 5, 6 and 7 Floor 8 - Large Quiet Study Room (no keyboard use) Quiet Zones are meant for quiet study and no cell phones or talking are allowed.  Please report any violations to the security office on the 1st floor.

Real Time Computer Availability Map at Library!

Students and Faculty are already benefiting from Atkins Library’s “Redesign the Library” campaign. “Help me find an open computer in the library!” has been a popular request since the campaign’s onset. The library first responded by providing an open computer option in its mobile app (via library.uncc.edu in your mobile web browser). This feature shows users a total count of available computers, as well as by-floor availability.

Now, the library introduces a real-time online map, showing the exact location of every open computer in the building. The live map is accessible at http://library.uncc.edu/computers from any web browser. Access through the library’s mobile app and desk computers will be completed soon.

The campus is talking and the library is listening. Keep your suggestions coming so we can help students and faculty do their work – better and faster.

Library's Mobile App Has Launched

Is there an open computer in the library? Who can help with my sociology paper research?

Atkins Library has these answers and more, with just the touch of a finger. A mobile app has been developed, offering some of Atkins Library's most valuable services: get subject specific librarian help, search the catalog and enjoy its newest feature: real time computer availability information.

Compatible with iPhone, iPod Touch, and Android, the app is just another broad step being taken by the library to engage users, particularly UNC Charlotte students, in innovative and beneficial ways. BlackBerry support is also planned for the future.

Stanley Wilder, University Librarian, excited about the launch asserts “the library is committed to being there, wherever students and faculty do academic work”. To access, just enter library.uncc.edu in your mobile web browser. Wherever you are, your library is there.



 

Scholarships Being Offered by the Office of Disability Services

The Office of Disability Services at UNC Charlotte will be offering several scholarships for the 2010/2011 academic year. Students with documented disabilities who are registered with The Office of Disability Services are eligible to apply.
