Writing Resource Center Summer Hours at Atkins Library

The Writing Resource Center (WRC) provides free, one-on-one writing consultation for students, faculty & staff. Their satellite office is located in Atkins Library Room 109, which is near the front entrance, to the left of the Information Desk.

Summer Hours are as follows:                       

An online scheduler is now available to make an appointment at http://rich65.com/uncc. While users may book times in advance, walk-in appointments will continue to be welcomed. Likewise, faculty may continue to refer students to the WRC for weekly appointments, which will then be added to the online schedule.

Note that reservations may be booked online for both WRC locations, Fretwell 220 and Atkins Library 109.

Take A Break in our Browsing/Popular Reading Collection Area...

Relax and unwind in Atkins Library’s Browsing/Popular Reading Collection area, now conveniently located on the 2nd Floor, by the Reserves Desk. You’ll enjoy reading hundreds of current popular books from the New York Times reviewed book collection as well as the Charlotte Observer’s repository donations.

Grab a cup of coffee from Ritazza Café, get comfortable in a nearby chair and peruse books such as:

• Audubon: Early Drawings by John James Audubon
• December by Elizabeth Harley Winthrop
• Baptism By fire: Eight Presidents Who took Office in Times of Crisis by Mark K. Updegrove
• The Elvis Encyclopedia by Adam Victor
• Mr. & Mrs. Prince: How An Extraordinary Eighteenth Century Family Moved Out of Slavery and Into Legend by Gretchen H. Gerzina
• Just After Sunset by Stephen King

Most books may be checked out for a three week period, with two renewals possible. Students, Faculty and Staff are also invited to use the Atkins Express service to obtain these books.  When you need a break, come enjoy the Browsing/Popular Reading Collection!

Laptop Lending Notice

We are pleased that our Laptop Lending service is of great benefit to students, faculty and staff!  Please note, however, laptop returns or checkouts are not available one hour prior to closing.  This is to ensure the Circulation Desk is able to follow required closing procedures before the building is locked. The 24 hour lending period remains the same.

Again, please return or checkout laptops before the one hour to closing mark – remember you may return your laptop the next day, as long as the time is within your 24 hour lending period.

Looking for a Quiet Place to Study?

The Atkins Library has several areas designated as Quiet Zones for quiet study.  Just look for the QZ sign in the following locations: Ground Floor - Compact Shelving Area 1st Floor - Halton Reading Room Floors 5, 6 and 7 Floor 8 - Large Quiet Study Room (no keyboard use) Quiet Zones are meant for quiet study and no cell phones or talking are allowed.  Please report any violations to the security office on the 1st floor.
