Murrey Atkins Library is proud to announce that <b> <a href="http://library.uncc.edu/addressbook/display.php?l=McCormick&f=Katie&dept=library"> Katie McCormick</a></b>, Assistant University Librarian for Special Collections, has been selected to attend the Society of <a href="http://www.slis.wisc.edu/continueed/archivesinst/">American Archivists’ <b>Archives Leadership Institute</b></a>. &nbsp;Being one of only 25 archivists selected from a pool of 90 applicants, Katie will attend this week-long event, hosted by the University of Wisconsin’s School of Library &amp; Information Studies.</p> <p class="medium">&nbsp;The event goal “is to examine the leadership needs of the archives profession and to prepare participants to influence policy and effect change on behalf of the profession (and ultimately, on behalf of the public served now and in the future)”.&nbsp; </p> <p class="medium">&nbsp;Katie looks forward to participating and believes, “it will be a great opportunity to learn from leaders in the field, to problem solve with colleagues and to have focused time to consider the broader implications of archival work”. &nbsp;Her experience will certainly benefit UNC Charlotte’s&nbsp;rich <a href="http://specialcollections.uncc.edu/">Special Collections</a> unit, currently including more than 8,500 rare books, 1500 oral history interviews, 4 million manuscript items and 1.4 million items in the University Archives.</p> <p class="medium"> <img border="0" src="http://www.library.uncc.edu/files/49/Katie-McCormick-Web-Pic.gif" width="200" height="286"></p> http://library.uncc.edu/new/?category=awards#2949
