• Google Scholar - excellent source for articles and full-text documents. New: Google Scholar is now linked to our library's holdings. For most articles you can click on the title of the article. If this doesn't get you to the full-text, click on Get It @ Atkins Library.
• NewsBank - newspaper database (many national and North Carolina papers, including Charlotte Observer)
FIND: Older Articles
The library has many older magazine and journal articles in it's print collection on the 2nd floor. It also has access to archives of older materials. There are both print and electronic indexes for finding articles in these by topic.

FIND: Books - Library Catalog
Use
the library
catalog find books and other materials owned by UNC Charlotte. Find a book on
a topic or subject use word searching. Find
books about a person an author or the works of an author, use a subject
search (last name, then, first name of author). Catalog
records show call numbers and availability status. Books
located in the General Collection may be checked out.
FIND: A Web Site
There are many great resources on the Web, and some not so good. For best results, search by multiple keywords or phrases.
Search
Engines -
Links to the major search engines (by type of search) with descriptions
of scope and arrangement.
About using Search Engines:
These sites search the web for pages or sites by key word. To effectively
use them you need to narrow your topic as much as possible. Sometimes
you need to try your search with variations or synonyms for a word.
Use significant words. Omit articles and connective words such as a,
an, the, and, or, with, etc. Here is an excellent guide
to searching Google.
You can also find many excellent Web sources through our

Topics for Research Papers page. This not only lists many excellent
ideas for topics, but also links to reliable sources for information.

Source? If you need a scholarly,
academic journal and are not sure what this means, this link gives
information and examples. Newspapers:
- The library has several electronic indexes for these. Often you will
get only the citation. However, several sources provide the full-text
