Why Support the Atkins Library?

The Atkins Library serves as the heart of the UNC Charlotte campus and directly supports the teaching, research, learning and scholarly activities on campus.  It provides innovate services, timely and relevant collections, the latest technology and tools for research, and the "Best Place to Study" on campus as voted by students in 2005.

The Atkins Library is UNC Charlotte's passport to knowledge, and on a typical day, serves over 11,000 on site and virtual users.  It houses 1 million volumes and has access to over 33,000 electronic and print journals.  The Atkins Library is the largest academic library in the southern piedmont and is a member of the Association of Southeastern Research Libraries.  It has over 250 public computer workstations, 50 lending laptops, and a host of equipment such as data projectors, digital cameras, and video cameras for student use.

Ways to give

There are many ways of giving to the UNC Charlotte J. Murrey Atkins Library.  Each can reflect a donor's particular interest and have different tax benefits.

Direct Gift

Gifts of cash, check, or credit card have an immediate impact on the Atkins Library. To make a gift, call the UNC Charlotte Office of University Development at 704-687-2271, or make your gift online.  When making a gift online, be sure to set your gift designation for the J. Murrey Atkins Library.

The Parents and Family Fund

When a parent or family member contributes to the UNC Charlotte Parents and Family Fund, the gift directly and immediately benefits the Library.  Recognize your UNC Charlotte student with an honorary bookplate with a gift of $100 or more. Or, have your name placed on a study carousel or desk for a gift of $1,000 or more.  If you would like to give to the Parents and Family Fund, contact the UNC Charlotte Office of University Development at 704-687-2271.

Gift of Material

The UNC Charlotte J. Murrey Atkins Library gratefully accepts donations of materials that support the academic teaching and research mission of the university.  For information about making donations to Special Collections please contact Robin Brabham, Associate Librarian for Special Collections & Public Programs.  For information about making donations to other collections please contact Joan Underwood, Collections & Technical Services.

For a gift of material that may have a value of $5000 or more, a qualified appraisal is necessary and donors should consult their tax advisers as to what constitutes a qualified appraisal.
